Dog Scent Work / Nose Work

dog scent work classes in bend. Or

What is Scent Work for Dogs?

Scent work is a fun and mentally stimulating activity where dogs use their natural sniffing abilities to locate specific scents, often hidden in containers, rooms, or outdoor areas. Based on professional detection dog work (like narcotics or search-and-rescue), scent work taps into your dog’s powerful sense of smell and gives them a job to do.

It's suitable for dogs of all ages, breeds, and energy levels—no prior training needed. Scent work builds confidence, focus, and provides great enrichment, especially for dogs who may be shy, reactive, or high-energy.

Why Dog Scent Work?

Scent work isn’t just fun—it’s incredibly beneficial for your dog! Here’s why:

  • Mental stimulation: Engaging your dog’s nose challenges their brain and reduces boredom.

  • Builds confidence: Especially helpful for shy or anxious dogs, scent work gives them a "job" they can succeed at.

  • Strengthens your bond: Working as a team deepens the connection between you and your dog.

  • Great for all dogs: Any age, breed, or ability level can enjoy scent work—no prior experience needed.

  • Tires them out (in a good way!): A short scent session can be more mentally exhausting than a long walk.

Whether for fun or competition, scent work brings out your dog’s natural talents in a rewarding and low-pressure environment.
